“A man knows when he has found his vocation when he stops thinking about how to live and begins to live.” -Thomas Merton.
So my ever ingenius brother came up with the brilliant plan to paint himself blue for his photography class….. His professor asked them to come up with an idea for a self portrait and have a friend photograph them- so of course, being the photographer in his life, he asked me. We spent the morning buying as much blue finger paint as we could- and a poster board to have the background match him. After scaring the dog, possibly freaking out the neighbors, and getting about a pint of additional green paint in his mouth (all for art, offf course), we accomplished some of my favorite photographs ever taken. His photos will be on my “fine art” gallery page here in a few days…. If he doesn’t get an A on this, purely based out of self-sacrfice- something is terribly wrong.
I’ve spent the last two hours looking through hundreds of photographs, trying to decide which ones should be displayed in my new house… It’s so good to look back and see all of the things that I’ve been able to photograph- all the memories that I’ve captured. As it turns out, our house is very colorful inside, full of huge drums, guitars, giant mod-podge letters, and old cameras. There are so many photographs that sort of capture these very peaceful, smiley, breathtaking moments in my life and it’s funny how much i’ve been grinning while looking at them. lately i’ve been thinking that i should just take a camera everywhere i go- just have one permantely attached around my neck- because there’s so many nights i lay down and wish i had had my camera to document whatever great thing happened that day. i still haven’t totally decided which photographs will “make” the wall- but- i’m sure they will frequently get changed out as new chapters open in our lives….
